I was recently hired to participate in illustration for a kids tent project. I worked for a couple of months in this big project, approximately from July to September 2020.
For this illustration, I was asked to draw a somehow a bit cartoonish, but still realistic art style. The dinosaurs needed to have texture, shadows, and lighting bouncing.
The atmosphere needed to be bright and happy, so the kids would feel comfortable to come in and play at the tent. For that, I added a lot of bright greens and a turquoise kind of blue at the rivers.
The composition was a bit complicated considering the dinosaurs had varied sizes and I still needed to work with some sense of perspective. I was also asked to make the T-Rex and the brontosaur as big as the height of the tent.
For the bottom area illustration, I painted the dinosaurs lounging with their families. The intention was to make it quite friendly-looking, so the kids don’t feel scared when hanging out inside the tent.
It was definitely a challenge to work in such large dimensions in this illustration.
The client was satisfied with the illustrations and we hope to sell a lot and make many children happy.
